BANDATHON!

Thank you parents and students for making our BandAThon a success!  This was our third BandAThon ever, and it ran smoothly thanks to the help of all of our parent volunteers.  We were able to raise over $6,000 which the Band Boosters will use to help support our band program in many different ways.  The Band Boosters uses this money to pay for special instruction from private teachers, scholarship students who need financial help with trips or other band related activities, purchase equipment and supplies and to help reduce the cost of band trips.

Our next fundraiser will be our popular Cookie Dough Fundraiser in the Spring.  Money raised during this event directly benefit individual student band accounts.  Students may use this money to help pay for band trips.

No Practice Card this week!

We not not be collecting a practice card this Thursday (Nov. 5).  This does NOT mean that students do not have to practice, only that we will not collect the practice cards.  We will resume collecting practice cards and having weekly playing/written tests next week.

Practice Cards

Practice Cards were issued to 7th and 8th grade band students today.  They will be due, with a parent signature, every Thursday of a 5-day school week.  That means if we have school Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, and Fri, we will collect a practice card.  We will NOT collect practice cards on short school weeks.

Students are to practice a total of 120 minutes each week.  Students will benefit more from a routine that includes practicing for a few minutes each day rather than one or two long rehearsals during the week.  A grading rubric is included on each practice card, and each practice card counts as a “homework” grade.

Practice cards may be printed from the internet, and can be found on the “Important Documents” page.

BANDATHON!

Information about our Band-a-Thon Fundraiser went home this week.  This fundraiser supports our Band Booster account which is used to purchase music, supplies and repair school owned instruments.  Different incentive levels are provided to the students where they can win cool prizes, receive a free practice card pass, or to help reduce the cost of the 7th or 8th grade Spring Trip.

Donations are due on Monday October 26.  Our main event, where students will perform in an informal concert after school, will be on Friday October 30 from 12:00 – 2:45.  Students who reach Prize Level 2 will stay for pizza and dodgeball.  The entire event will conclude at 4:30 pm.  Please ask your child about the letter and response form if you have not seen them, or you can find it on the “Important Documents” link on the top of the page.

Week 2

Please get all paperwork completed and returned by this Friday!  7th grade, encore 2 almost has all of their forms signed and completed.  Remember, the first class to have all paperwork turned in gets a free period!

Oh Yeah!

Band Students!  Please remember that all paperwork is due signed and returned by next Friday, September 4th.  The first class (out of all 6) to have all of their paperwork signed and returned will be “Rocking Out” during one encore period.

First Day!

Welcome back students and parents!  I am very excited about the new school year and meeting our new students and seeing our returning kids.  This is going to be a great year for the band program.  We have many opportunities for our students to take advantage of!

Parents – be on the lookout for Important Band Information coming home in manilla folders with your child.  You should find our Band Handbook, Band Calendar, Parent Volunteer Form, Carteret County Volunteer Application, Newsletter Address Info Form, and Medical Release Form in the folder.

You can always find these Important Documents in the link on the top of the page.  They can be viewed and downloaded directly from the website.

2009 – 2010!!!

Welcome to the Morehead City Middle School Band webpage!  We are currently under conctruction, but keep returning to find information about each of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands by following the links on the right.  We will also make all important documents available for download from this site by following the links above.  Other things that you may run across on the site are: homework assignments, audio and video of things going on in class, and general band information.
