Morehead City Middle School is located in Morehead City, NC. We are on the coast about 3 hours east of Raleigh. Our band program is made up of students in the following ensembles: our 6th Grade Beginning Band, 7th and 8th Grade Concert Bands, Pep Band, Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble. The MCMS Band is known for putting out quality ensembles that have performed for various community events and at several music festivals in nearby states, bringing recognition to our school and county.

Our Directors are David Fye, and Andy Wright. This is Mr. Fye’s 7th year with us at MCMS. He received his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University, and studied percussion. He is originally from Alexandria, VA, a suburb of Washington, DC. Mr. Fye has been involved with music since he was in the fifth grade when he began his band career as a saxophone player. He continued to play the sax until he was a sophomore in high school when he switched over to percussion. Mr. Fye has toured the country several times while marching in the Carolina Crown and Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. His involvement with music continued while he was at ECU. He performed with the Percussion Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Marching Band. In addition to the MCMS performance ensembles, Mr. Fye helps with local high school marching band programs.

Andy Wright is joining the MCMS team this year, coming from West Carteret High School where he serves as one of the school’s band directors.  He will be here for just a few hours each day, but we are excited to have Mr. Wright on our team.  Mr. Wright received his Undergraduate Degree in Music Education from East Carolina University as a percussionist, and then went on to Northwestern Univsersity in Chicago for his Masters Degree in Music Performance.  He currently lives in Morehead City with his wife Ashley who is the Band Director at East Carteret High School, son Jackson, and dog Stanley.

Mr. Fye and Mr. Wright met many years ago when they both marched with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps in 1996.  They performed in the front ensemble together.  Mr. Fye was just a sophomore in high school, and Mr. Wright was in college at ECU.  Little did they know then where they would end up 13 years later!!
